Into Ridge

Painter's Villa on Jiangjun Mountain

2016

Individual

Dwell in nature and hear the stone.

The project starts with listening to the imagination of a villa in nature from a Chinese ink painter. The painter’s only son is abroad all year-round. Besides his wife, he has frequent communication with his apprentices. He needs space for painting scrolls and being immersed in nature.

Inspired by the site on the mountain ridge, I proposed a hidden linear volume with a series of spaces interacting with the ridge. “A long table” is what I imagined — the sequence of life is presented on this table. The massing would flow from the top to the path, lying down with a humble attitude. The space for sacred experience is also embedded deep inside the mountain, highlighting a relieving ending of continuous tensive experience in nature.
